Please join us for a range of free events taking place during the week aimed at the multi agency workforce. We are really excited to have international, national and local experts share their knowledge and skills with us. You can find all the details and information below. We start the week with an in person opening launch followed by a series of webinars all of which will be recorded and made available to watch in your own time. Some partner organisations will also be opening up their doors for you to visit and meet their teams so please keep scrolling to the bottom of the page to see the full list of opportunities…and remember…if we all work together CSA is preventable, not inevitable.
MONDAY 23 JUNE 2025: OPENING LAUNCH 9.30am – 12.00pm
This is an in person event taking place at the New Continental Hotel focusing on the prevention of child sexual abuse. We are delighted to welcome 3 key speakers contributing to discussions.
Superintendent Phil Williams, Vice Chair of the Plymouth Safeguarding Children Partnership, will open the launch and set the scene for our committment to preventing and responding to CSA in the city. Phil leads Devon & Cornwall Police’s Neighbourhood Policing and Partnerships Command Unit in Plymouth.
Dr Jennie Noll is a Professor of Pschology at the University of Rochester, New York, United States of America. Jennie is a leading expert in the biological, psychological and social impact of child abuse and has dedicated 30 years of her career to the prevention of child sexual abuse. Whilst in UK Jennie will be sharing with us the ground breaking work she has undertaken in the USA to support and strengthen communities in preventing child sexual abuse.
Pat Branningan is Assistant Director at the NSPCC and leads the charity’s work on child sexual abuse. By discipline Pat is a medical anthropologist with a background in public health and has worked across a number of central government departments. In 2020 Pat was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to investigate and develop public health responses to the prevention of child sexual abuse in the UK. In his presentation Pat will be exploring the work he has undertaken as part of his fellowship which aims to establish a place where individuals , families, communities and support services are all working together to prevent child sexual abuse.

TUESDAY 24 JUNE 2025: Voices of Children & Young People Webinar 9.30am – 10.30am
Delivered by colleagues from the NSPCC & Plymouth City Council’s Participation Team & Learning Academy this thought provoking and creative webinar will share the voices of children and young people who have been harmed and what they are telling us, either verbally or through their behaviour, about the help they receive and need.

TUESDAY 24 JUNE 2025: The Hydrant Project Webinar 11.00am – 12.00pm
The Hydrant Project is a national policing programme that develops policy and strategy on behalf of the National Police Chiefs’ Council. In this webinar Tracey Watkinson, Hydrant Partnership Manager, shares the latest police data and analysis regarding the prevalence of child sexual abuse and how this is informing policing and partner organisations across the country.

TUESDAY 24TH JUNE 2025: Forensic CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services) Webinar 2.00pm – 3.00pm (Please note this time is subject to final confirmation and if updated we will notify you directly if you have already registered for the webinar with the new time.)
Forensic CAMHS is a specialist team that provides advice, signposting and consultation to professionals. Their referral criteria is where children & young people present with a high level of risk of harm to others through behaviours such as harmful sexual behaviour, and/or serious violence in multiple settings, and/or fire setting and complex mental health needs that would meet the threshold for general CAMHS, and/or neurodevelopmental differences such as Autism and ADHD, and/or trauma and attachment difficulties. Please join the Forensic CAMHS team in this webinar to hear about their service and how they can support you in your work with children, young people and families.

WEDNESDAY 25 JUNE 2025: Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse Webinar 10.30 am – 11.30am
Dr Natasha Sabin is a forensic psychologist and Practice Improvement Advisor with the Centre for Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse. In this webinar Natasha will explore the signs and indicators of CSA and the importance of not over relying on children telling us they are being abused, they will be showing us and our role is to notice this. Natasha will also be discussing how to sensitively communicate with children when we have concerns that a child is being sexually abused.

WEDNESDAY 25 JUNE 2025: Sexual Assault Referral Centre , Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub & Devon & Cornwall Police Public Protection Unit Webinar 1.30pm – 3.00pm
The Sexual Assault Referral Centre, the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub and Devon & Cornwall Police work closely together following a report of child sexual abuse. WEDNESDAY 25 JUNE 2025: Circles South West Webinar 3.30pm – 4.30pm
Circles South West is a charity providing a number of services that offer specialist support and accountability, interventions and professional training to enhance the management of people who sexually harm in the community or who are at risk of doing so. With a background in public protection work since 2000 Jamie Stephenson, Circles Co-ordinator, will facilitate the webinar describing the work of Circles South West, the research and methodology underpinning their work and their recent secondary harm prevention studies and proposals.

THURSDAY 26 JUNE 2025: Devon & Cornwall Police: Project NIghtEye Webinar 12.00pm – 1.00pm
Project NightEye is a policing approach that aims to make public spaces in the evening and night-time a safe environment for girls and women free from male sexual harrassment, sexual violence and physical violence. Delivering this webinar will be Chief Inspector Dawn Perriman. As the lead for violence against women and girls for Devon & Cornwall Police Dawn will describe the range of activities undertaken as part of Project NightEye to prevent sexual and other crimes taking place.

THURSDAY 26 JUNE 2025: Problematic & Harmful Sexual Behaviour Displayed by Children & Young People Webinar 3.30pm – 4.30pm
Delivered by NSPCC colleagues this webinar will support a shared understanding of what is meant by problematic & harmful sexual behaviour and what sits underneath the behaviours. It will also share how children, young people and their families can be supported to have a future that is free from harm.

FRIDAY 27 JUNE 2025: 7 Years of Learning from Together for Childhood Webinar 11.00am – 12.00pm
Together for Childhood is an NSPCC initiative that works with local communities and partners to make them safer for children, to prevent child sexual abuse and tackle the problems that cause it, head-on. Plymouth has been a Together for Childhood site since 2018 and this webinar will highlight the work undertaken to date, examine the learning gathered so far and future actions needed to support children, families and communities across the city.

FRIDAY 27 JUNE 2025: Closing Summary Webinar 3.30pm – 4.00pm
To close the week Fran Giblin and Tim Usherwood will provide a summary of the learning that has taken place, highlight the strengths in the system and how together we can continue to develop our prevention and response to child sexual abuse across the city. Fran Giblin is Head of Service for Quality Assurance & Safeguarding and Tim Usherwood is Service Manager for Children’s Social Work both with Plymouth City Council. In addition to these roles Fran and Tim chair two of our safeguarding children partnership groups relevent to child sexual abuse. Fran will be sharing the practice review work the partnership has undertaken on CSA as she leads the Multi Agency Performance & Quality Assurance Sub Group whilst Tim chairs the Child Sexual Abuse Working Group and will explore the activity that takes place.

MONDAY 30 JUNE 2025: Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI): Capabilities, Risks & Impact on Children – Eliminating Child Sexual Abuse Online – The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) Webinar 3.30pm – 4.30pm
Yes, we know this isn’t the same week as the main programme but this was an opportunity too great to miss! Mariya Kraft is an Internet Content Analyst with the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and will lead this webinar on the quickly developing issue of artificial intelligence and the risks this poses for children and young people. The IWF works to make the internet a safer place. It helps victims of child sexual abuse worldwide by identifying and removing online images and videos of their abuse. They search for child sexual abuse images and videos and then have them removed. Their Hotline offers a safe place for the public to report anonymously.
