Introduction
This ‘responding to domestic abuse’ toolkit has been developed to share a range of tools to support you in your direct work with children and families. It is aimed at supporting practitioners to safely respond to domestic abuse when working with adult and child survivors. For more information about domestic abuse and it’s impact on adult and child survivors please take a look at our practitioners guide.
We have structured this toolkit using the 6Rs model:
1. Recognise and Ask
2. Respond
3. Risk assess and Safety Plan
4. Refer
5. Record
6. Review and Reflect
This model is adapted from the IRISi model and has been developed using resources from local charity First Light, research, best practice, conversations with local frontline practitioners and learning from listening to people with lived and living experience. There are links within each section to tools and further information and resources.
