Hospital Named Nurse Safeguarding Children
The Named Nurse is the lead Nurse in an acute hospital setting with qualifications and additional experience in child welfare and safeguarding and has in depth knowledge of children’s health and development.
The Named Nurse is responsible for ensuring that there are systems and processes in place including the development of policies, procedures and guidance that need to be in place for the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children at risk of harm.
Hospital Named Doctor for Safeguarding
The Named Doctor for Safeguarding is a Consultant Paediatrician in an acute hospital setting who has completed higher professional training in Paediatrics and has considerable clinical experience of assessing and examining children and young people in relations to safeguarding.
The Named Doctor supports all activities necessary to ensure the hospital meets its responsibilities to safeguard and protect children and young people.
NHS Devon Integrated Care Board (ICB)
Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children
The Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children provides safeguarding, child protection expertise and strategic leadership to health services and Plymouth Safeguarding Children Partnership to ensure that children and young people are safeguarded in Plymouth.
The Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children works closely with our Named Nurse, Doctor and Midwifery colleagues to ensure there is health contribution at Partnership subgroups and working groups. The Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children will seek assurance from health service providers that their safeguarding practice is robust and learning from reviews and audits are disseminated to staff and embedded into health practice to improve outcomes for children.
