Recommended Training for Early Years Annex C Compliance: Early Years Foundation Stage 2025

To support early years settings, including school nurseries, foundation stage classes, childminders, and wraparound provisions working with early years children, in meeting the requirements of Annex C in the 2025 Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, we recommend the following training sessions. These have been carefully selected to ensure your training is in alignment with the latest statutory guidance.
Some of the recommended sessions are available free of charge, while others may incur a fee. Settings are welcome to source their own training, provided it meets the standards outlined in Annex C. However, to ensure a consistent and a multi-agency approach across all settings, we strongly encourage participation in the sessions listed below.

Essential Training Requirements : Plymouth Safeguarding Children Partnership (PSCP) Training

Practitioners and Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) working in early years must complete the Understanding Child Protection course.
DSLs should also complete Working Together to Safeguard Children training.
Both DSLs and practitioners are required to complete Understanding The Role of the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) .

Please be aware that the PSCP Child Protection Refresher Course does not meet the requirements of Annex C.

Additional DSL Specific Training

While the PSCP do not offer the following courses directly as a partnership, we recommend them to meet the requirements of Annex C:
Safer recruitment | NSPCC Learning
Online safety training | NSPCC Learning

These courses incur a charge.

Training must be renewed every two years to remain compliant with Annex C standards.

The Early years Safeguarding and Welfare team still recommends attendance of other PSCP training sessions in addition to your statutory child Protections (EYFS Annexe C), please note they will not cover the training requirements stated in the EYFS Annexe C.
