Adolescence is a process of self-discovery, children are working out who they are, which can be shaped by lots of different factors, such as family, cultural and societal expectations, experiences with school and friends and exposure to the media.
Young people also take active steps and make choices that shape their identity. They select the environments and people they want to be around and adjust their beliefs and behaviours based on feedback.
Simply put – your identity is ‘who you are’.
Sometimes you may struggle with your identity. This can feel confusing. You might be finding it hard to find your place in the world. As a young person you have a lot to face in terms of identity and who you are.
It is especially difficult these days because we live in a digital world where fashions and trends are ever changing.
