We welcomed almost 200 multi agency colleagues from across the city at our annual conference in November 2025. It was an engaging and powerful day where we explored some of the key issues for children, families and professionals in Plymouth and celebrated the amazing work taking place everyday. Conference Welcome & Opening Comments from the PSCP Chair
Detetctive Chief Inspector Darren Roach chaired the conference and welcomed everyone to the event. David Haley, Director for Children’s Services and PSCP Chair David Haley shared his opening comments to help set the scene for the day.

Jane Wiffin, safegaurding consultant, presented the latest learning from research and child safegaurding practice reviews relating to child neglect. Jane is a national specialist in understanding neglect and how we can ensure children are at the forefront of both professionals and families thoughts when responding to worries.

The Families First Partnership Reforms are the most significant system wide changes to help for families in decades. Lisa Davies, Service Director for Children’s Services and Richard Woodland, Director of Safeguarding for Westcountry Schools Trust, provided an overview of the national FFP programme and the work taking place in Plymouth to implement the changes.

Sally Shearer OBE, National Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel Member, focused on the Panel’s work, detailed the key learning themes the panel observes in its analysis of CSPRs and shared some planned developments the Panel is working on, including a new website and learning hub.

A group of young people in plymouth recently completed a hugely important and sensitive piece of work on managing distress and feelings of wanting to take your own life. With the support of Stuart Hogg, Participation Practice Manager, Plymouth City Council and Sarah Harris, Senior Professional Youth Worker, Plymouth City Council, the young people presented their suicide prevention resource, SOS, aimed at helping young people manage those moments of distress and see a way through it. Fay Cook, Family Nurse Partnership Supervisor, Livewell Southwest shared the work of the Family Nurse Partnership and was joined by two parents who powerfully described their own story of being parents and the difference the Family Nurse Partnership made to them and their children’s lives.
