Dame Rachel de Souza launched the Big Future survey on 8 May 2026. The survey is open to all children and young people aged 0–18 in England and explores their views on childhood today.
We want to raise awareness of private fostering so the children living in these arrangements get the support they need. Private fostering is when a child or young person under 16 (or under 18 if disabled) is living with someone who is not a close relative for 28 days or more. A close relative is defined as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, brother or step-parent by marriage.

It is a private arrangement made between a parent and carer. As a system of support we all required to notify the local authority when we become aware of such situations and local authority colleagues are required to assess the arrangement.

Resources Available Following our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Week in June 2025 on the Theme of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA): Building Preventative Communities & Trauma Informed Responses

Thank you to all who took part in Safeguarding Week in June 2025, over 800 professionals from across the professional network attended the range of events. Key areas of learning throughout the week were:

The importance of taking a public health approach to preventing sexual abuse,

Placing responsibility, accountability and support for change on those causing harm,

Children show us what’s happening for them and we need to ‘notice’ this and use our observations to have supportive conversations with them.

To help us do this, the following resources were shared throughout the week. Please do take the time to familiarise yourself with these

Signs and indicators of child sexual abuse | CSA Centre

Communicating with children | CSA Centre

Child Sexual Abuse – Plymouth Safeguarding Children Partnership

We recorded all of the sessions that took place during Safeguarding Week and these, along with the power point presentations, are available on our PSCP website: Multi Agency Safeguarding Week June 2025 – Plymouth Safeguarding Children Partnership. Please do share this within your networks and team meetings where possible.

We’ve also placed all the resources into a separate brochure document if that’s an easier format for you and can also be downloaded from the Safeguarding week page. If you have any further questions about Safeguarding Week 2025 or have issues accessing the webinar recordings, please email the PSCP Business Unit at pscp@plymouth.gov.uk.

Thank you again to everyone who engaged with safeguarding week, and remember if we all work together, child sexual abuse is preventable, not inevitable.
