Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026 Published

The multi agency statutory guidance commonly known as ‘Working Together’ has been updated. The 2026 published document is now available and is the latest version that should be used to guide our work and how we join together to support children and families. The 2026 update includes:

Aligning with Families First Partnership Programme reforms, including clarifying that Family Help now brings together Targeted Early Help and Section 17 support into a single, more seamless offer
Reinforcing expectations for multi-agency child protection
Strengthening responses to child sexual abuse, domestic abuse and the safeguarding of babies, unborn children and children in any care arrangement, including those who are looked after
Streamlining the chapter on learning from serious safeguarding incidents to provide clearer direction on when and how incidents should be notified and reviewed
A stronger focus on anti-racist, anti-discriminatory and culturally informed practice.

Plymouth Rapid Review Learning

We have a new page on our website to share the learning from when a child suffers a serious incident and we complete a Rapid Review on the situation. It includes detail on what a Rapid Review is and the learning from each one.

We have already uploaded the learning from our most recent Rapid Review in February 2025 with a theme of domestic abuse. Here you will find a briefing from the Rapid Review report and how the learning can be put into day to day practice. You’ll also find a ready to use/off the shelf power point slide presentation of the learning for you to use in your own organisations as well as a word version to use as a handout.

Please take a look and see how you can embed the learning in your work with children and families. As we complete future Rapid Reviews we will update the page with the learning from each report.

It’s #SaferSleepWeek, the annual awareness campaign around reducing sudden infant death syndrome (also known as SIDS). We’re proud to support @lullabytrust as the week focuses on baby sleep patterns, busting baby sleep myths and helping anyone who cares for a young baby with sleep deprivation.
